Palata is an Italian commune in the province of Campobasso in the Molise region with 1648 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

Palata is located on a hill at 520 m above sea level, about 50 km north of the provincial capital Campobasso and 30 km southwest of the port city of Termoli .

Adjacent municipalities are Acquaviva Collecroce , Guardialfiera , Guglionesi , Larino , Montecilfone , Montenero di Bisaccia and Tavenna .

history

The place is mentioned as a fief of different families from the 12th century. At the beginning of the 16th century, Slavs from Dalmatia settled in Palata. The Molise Slavonic language is now extinct in Palata.
