Rudolf Spengler

Rudolf Spengler (born November 18, 1928 in Lützellinden ; † December 17, 2019 in Münchholzhausen ) was a German handball player and handball trainer .

As an active handball player, Spengler played for TV Lützellinden . The greatest success with this club was the German runner-up in field handball in 1957. The club was defeated by Berliner SV 92 in the final. Spengler headed TV Lützellinden as chairman for 17 years.

After his active time, Spengler was the coach of the neighboring TV Hüttenberg from 1968 to 1979 . This was the club's most successful sporting period. In 1972 he was promoted to the then two-pronged Bundesliga . 1974 Hüttenberg was first in the Bundesliga South. In 1977 and 1978 the club was DHB vice-cup winner and took part in the European Cup in 1978/79 . Six Hüttenberg players joined the national team under Spengler's aegis . The best known was his son and later world champion Horst Spengler , furthermore these were Harald Ohly , Richard Boczkowski , Walter Don , Axel Huth and Klaus Meineke . After his successful career as a Bundesliga coach, the handball teacher still had a coaching station on TV Petterweil .

Rudolf Spengler was a long-time companion of the German national handball team, first as a DHB match observer and from 1978 as an official assistant coach under national coach Vlado Stenzel . In 1978 he supervised the German selection at the World Cup in Denmark , which was able to achieve the world title there. The captain of the German team was Horst Spengler.

From 1986 to 2007, Rudolf Spengler organized numerous charity games for the traditional World Cup team from 1978 for the benefit of Joachim Deckarm .

In June 2015 Rudolf Spengler and his son Horst were awarded the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon by the Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier .
