The TV Lützellinden 1904 eV was an association from the Gießen district of Lützellinden .

Founded in 1904, it became internationally known for its successful women's handball team. Due to the financial legacy of a bankruptcy three years earlier, the association was unanimously dissolved by the 91 members present at the annual general meeting on October 12, 2006. Subsequently, the TSV 2006 Lützellinden was founded.

The financial decline

Due to economic problems, the team was excluded from Bundesliga play in 2004 and had to be relegated to the regional league after the license was withdrawn. TV Lützellinden won the championship there in 2004/05, but was not given a license for the 2nd Bundesliga for economic reasons. The club then dissolved the formerly successful first women's team.

Jürgen Gerlach , former coach of the first women's team at TV Lützellinden, had loaned the club over 500,000 euros from his private assets in 2002. The association, which was already in financial difficulties at this point, was no longer able to cope with the debt burden. On June 1, 2005, a bankruptcy petition was filed against the association. However, the Giessen District Court refused to initiate proceedings due to lack of funds. The liquidation of the association was thus decided. The liabilities, which could no longer be paid off in the end, amounted to 774,000 euros, according to the former presidium, over 500,000 euros through the private loan from ex-trainer Gerlach alone.

Sporting successes

Successful coach Gerlach, who played a key role in the above-mentioned successes of the club, was able to win the last German championship for the club in the 2005/06 season with the female A-youth of TV Lützellinden.
