San Nicandro Garganico is located not far from Lake Lesina , near the coast of the Adriatic Sea . The neighboring municipalities are Apricena , Cagnano Varano , Lesina , Poggio Imperiale and San Marco in Lamis . The city is located in the nature reserve of the Gargano National Park . The city is at an altitude of 220 meters. The distance to the sea on the country road is approx. 12 km. After San Giovanni Rotondo the domain of the Holy Padre Pio is approximately 30 km away.

history

The city was first mentioned in a document in 1095 AD. But there are indications that the first settlement took place as early as 663 AD. In 1881 the city had 8257 inhabitants. The city was called Sannicandro Garganico until 1999.

San Nicandro Garganico is on the railway line from San Severo to Peschici . The train station is on the southern outskirts. The trains take around 30 minutes to San Severo and 50 minutes to Foggia .
