Volturara Appula is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 397 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Foggia in Apulia . The municipality is located about 41 kilometers west-northwest of Foggia and borders directly on the province of Benevento ( Campania ).

history

The historical settlement of Uluria , which was presumably settled by Japygers , was destroyed during the Samnite Wars . From the 10th century (969) there was a bishopric in Volturara Appula , which existed until 1818 and in the meantime (from 1433) was merged with the bishopric of Montecorvino . The titular diocese of Vulturaria has existed since 1968 .

Strada statale 17 dell'Appennino Abruzzese e Appulo Sannitica leads through the municipality from Antrodoco to Foggia. From here the former Strada Statale 369 Appulo Fortorina (today: Provincial Road 135) goes to Reino .
