Lena Klaassen (born November 22, 1991 in Geldern / North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete who specializes in medium-distance runs and relays .

career path

After moving to Leverkusen as part of her dual career, Klaassen was able to attend a sports-promoting high school and boarding school, completed an apprenticeship as an office clerk in 2014 and is studying for a bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Düsseldorf .

Athletic career

2008 was the most successful year for Lena Klaassen to date. She was German youth champion with the 3 x 800 meter relay and with the 4 x 400 meter relay German U23 champion as well as German cross-country runner-up with the B youth team. Further placements in 2008 were a 3rd place over 800 meters at the German U18 championships , a 4th place at the German cross-country championships as B-youths in the individual evaluation and a 5th place at the German youth indoor championships on the 800 meters.

In 2010, two more championship titles followed with relays: At the German U20 championships (3 × 800 m) and the German U23 championships (4 × 400 m). Furthermore, Klaassen came in 3rd place at the German Cross Country Championships with the A-youth team and got two fourth places, one at the German U20 indoor championships in the 800-meter run, and the other at the German U20 championships in 2000 meter obstacle course .

As a relay runner in the 3 x 800 meter relay, Klaassen was German champion in 2014 and 2017 and German runner-up in 2015 and 2018 . In 2015 she became German indoor champion in the hall

2016 started for Klaassen with a German indoor record of 6: 22.59 min in the 3 x 800 meter relay with Carolin Walter and Rebekka Ackers in the women’s class as part of the German Youth Indoor Championships , and a week later she became German Indoor runner-up over 1500 meters.

In 2017, during the indoor season at the Vectis Indoor Meeting in Kirchberg, Luxembourg , Klaasen set a personal best of 4: 22.29 minutes over 1500 meters and took third place, first at the German indoor championships over 1500 meters and a week later with the 3 x 800 meter relay, which is traditionally held as part of the German Youth Indoor Championships.

Klaassen is not in the squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

Lena Klaassen has started for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen since autumn 2006 . Before that, she started for SV Sonsbeck .
