At the Junior European Championships in Hengelo he reached sixth place.

In 2008 he became German champion in 50 km and secured the junior title over 35 km. At the World Cup in Cheboksary, he came in 69th place in the 20 km walk .

In 2010 he came second in the German championships over 10 km. At the European Championships in Barcelona he started over 50 km, but gave up the race early.

In 2011 he became German champion over 5000 meters indoors and 10 km outdoors. At the European Walkers' Cup, he achieved third place in the 50 km race. At the World Championships in Daegu , he finished 18th in the 20 km walk. He had to forego a planned start over 50 km because of an inflammation of the lymph nodes .

In 2012, Linke became German champion over 20 km and took third place at the World Cup for walkers in Saransk over 50 km. He increased his personal best to 3:47:33 h. Over the same distance he reached 21st place at the Olympic Games in London in 3:49:19 h.

In 2017 he finished fifth again at the 2017 World Championships in London . In addition, Linke won the European Cup in Podebrady as the first German ever to win the European Cup over 20 km.

Linke celebrated its greatest international success so far in 2019 at the 2019 World Athletics Championships . In 1:27:19 h, the walker secured fourth place over 20 km. After the race there was initially confusion about his result, as Linke had apparently lost his timing chip on the track. Due to the climatic conditions in Doha, Qatar (temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius), the 20 km walker race was only started at night and was therefore a particular sporting challenge. After the race he said: “Of course, [fourth] place is very good. My best international ranking. But of course I do the sport to win a medal. ”As in the women's competitions, some walkers had to give up prematurely in the men's competitions or collapsed due to a heat breakdown . Linke described the conditions as “abnormal”, but he “got along surprisingly well with the heat. It was a purely elimination race and I made it through. ”The running association German Road Races (GRR) criticized the event strongly:“ The health of the athletes is not considered at all. ”GRR asked the DLV to contact the IAAF to express it accordingly critical.
