Athletics Association Braunschweig

The Braunschweig Athletics Association , or LG Braunschweig for short , is a German athletics community consisting of the athletics departments of the Braunschweig clubs Eintracht Braunschweig , MTV Braunschweig , PSV Braunschweig , SC Victoria Braunschweig and SV Grün-Weiß Waggum .

History and successes

The LG Braunschweig was founded in 1977 as a merger of originally twelve Braunschweig associations. She succeeded the first Braunschweig athletics community, which was founded in 1970 but dissolved again in 1975.

LG athletes have already achieved numerous successes in German and international championships, especially in long-distance running . The best-known LG athletes included the Olympians Kai Karsten , Sören Ludolph and Luminita Zaituc , as well as Jürgen Austin-Kerl , Oliver Dietz , Carsten Eich , Jonas Hamm , René Herms , Stefan Koch , Melanie Paschke and Stephanie Storp . In 2012, the Ethiopian marathon runner Fate Tola Geleto and her husband, the German cross-country champion Musa Roba-Kinkal , joined the running team.

In 1999, athletes from the Braunschweig Athletics Association won six titles at the North German Championships for Athletes, which were held in the stadium on Hamburger Strasse . A total of 500 athletes took part. In 2000 , 2004 and 2010 the German Athletics Championships took place in Braunschweig, in 2004 and 2010 the starters of the LG Braunschweig were able to win a title each.
