Stefan Koch (born July 17, 1984 in Rheine ) is a German long-distance runner .

Career

Koch began running at LAV Rheine. He later switched to the Burgsteinfurt Gymnastics Association. He has been working for TV Wattenscheid 01 since 2001 , where he is trained by Tono Kirschbaum today. Since the 2009 season, Stefan Koch started for the LG Braunschweig , in 2012 he moved to Essen to the Tusem, for which he made his debut on March 4, 2012 when he won the 31st run for the Bavarian cross in Leverkusen.

Sporting successes

At the U23 European Championships in 2005 and the U20 European Championships in 2003, Koch was able to achieve fifth place over 10,000 meters . In 2005 he became German champion in the half marathon . Since November 2003, he has also held the German youth record in the half marathon (1:06:08 h).

In 2006 he won the Bietigheim New Year's Eve run .

In October 2007 he made his debut on the marathon route in Essen and won the race around the Baldeneysee in 2:17:17 h. At the 35th Berlin Marathon on September 28, 2008, he increased his personal best to 2:15:38 hours and was twelfth overall and the second-best German.

In 2009 he finished fifth in the Gutenberg Marathon in 2:20:24 h. As the fastest German in the field, he won the German marathon championships held at the same time. He was then nominated for a start at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin , but had to cancel his participation at short notice due to health problems. He won his second German championship title on May 22, 2011 in 2:20:38 h at the Hamburg Marathon . In the overall standings he finished eighth as the fastest European.

On April 15, 2012 he won the German half marathon championship in Griesheim in 1:05:22 .
