After his politically active father went missing and his brother was murdered, his uncle took him out of the country for his own safety in 2005. Instead of going to Canada as planned , however, he first ended up in a children's home in Frankfurt am Main . At the Paderborn Easter run he finished ninth in 28:50 minutes on the 10-kilometer route. After he had finished third at the German Championships in Ohrdruf and had undercut the required qualification standard with 28: 41.60 minutes, he had hopes of participating in the European Championships in Barcelona . Ultimately, however, defending champion Jan Fitschen , Christian Glatting and obstacle course specialist Filmon Ghirmai were given preference. Apart from that, he won the race at the Berlin City Night 2010.

Roba-Kinkal followed the Mikitenko couple to SC Gelnhausen in 2011 . In April he made his debut on the half marathon distance and finished second behind André Pollmächer at the German Championships in Griesheim with a time of 1:04:30 h .
