André Pollmächer
Frank André Pollmächer (born March 22, 1983 in Riesa ) is a former German long-distance runner who achieved his greatest success by winning the 10,000 meter European Cup in Ferrara in 2007 .
Career
Pollmächer trained under Bernd Dießner and started for LAC Erdgas Chemnitz . Pollmächer completed an apprenticeship with the Federal Police . His sister is the 400-meter runner Anja Pollmächer (a participant in the 2004 Junior World Championships).
Andre Pollmächer qualified together with Jan Fitschen for the European Championships over 10,000 meters in 2006 and came in seventh. In 2007 he qualified for the World Championships over 10,000 meters; but had to cancel his start due to knee problems. In 2008 he made his marathon debut in Frankfurt in a time of 2:14:18 h. The following year in Düsseldorf, his personal best improved to 2:13:09 h. At the 2009 World Championships he started the marathon , which he finished with 18th place as the best German and fifth best European runner. After this run he ended his career and succeeded his trainer Bernd Dießner. After a year of coaching, Pollmächer decided to make a comeback as a runner and announced at a press conference that he wanted to prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games under his new coach, Ronald Weigel . But his preparation was disturbed by a venous bleeding. In the end, he had to cancel his participation in the Düsseldorf Marathon , where he wanted to qualify, with hip problems and a ruptured Achilles tendon. In 2013 he made his comeback at the Berlin Marathon and improved his personal best to 2:13:05 h. On March 30, 2014, he improved his personal best in the half marathon to 1:02:47 h at the Berlin half marathon . At the Düsseldorf Marathon 2014, Pollmächer provided the required proof of performance for the 2014 European Athletics Championships in Zurich with a time of 2:13:58 h.
In April 2016 he announced the end of his career.
He is the trainer and mentor of Hagen Brosius . Since November 2016 he has been working as a trainer for FC Schalke 04 .
He is 1.79 m tall and weighs 58 kg.
