René Herms
René Herms (born July 17, 1982 in Dohna ; † January 9, 2009 in Lohmen ) was a German athlete and Olympian. From 2003 to 2006 he was the best German 800 meter runner .
Life
Herms attended the Johann-Gottfried-Herder-Gymnasium in Pirna . Herms started with handball before switching to athletics in 1997. From the beginning, Klaus Müller took him under his wing at LSV Pirna . First Herms was a sprinter, then a 400-meter runner . In 2001 he switched to the 800 meter distance. From then on he trained with Wolfram Müller . He became German champion and European youth champion straight away. In 2002 he then moved to LG Asics Pirna , which emerged from LSV Pirna . Herms started working for the LG Braunschweig on January 1, 2007 .
In October 2004 Herms married the physiotherapist Stefanie Lorenz. He was found dead in his home on January 10, 2009. In the autopsy, sudden cardiac death as a result of virus-induced myocarditis was found to be the cause of death. The burial of the urn took place on January 26th, 2009 in Pirna .
