René Challan
René Challan (born December 12, 1910 in Asnières , † August 4, 1978 in Nevers ) was a French composer and conductor.
Life
Like the latter, Henri Challan's twin brother attended the Paris Conservatory , where he was a student of Henri Busser , Jean and Noël Gallon . In the competition for the Prix de Rome he won the second Grand Prix in 1934 and the first in 1935. From 1936 to 1939 he stayed in the Villa Medici in Rome .
From 1949 to 1975 he was artistic director of the Classical section of the record producer Pathé-Marconi . An edition of the works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, which the composer conducted himself, was published there in the early 1970s .
Challan composed an opera , three symphonies , several instrumental concerts and works for chamber music. He is the father of harpist Annie Challan .
