René Challan

René Challan (born December 12, 1910 in Asnières , † August 4, 1978 in Nevers ) was a French composer and conductor.

Life

Like the latter, Henri Challan's twin brother attended the Paris Conservatory , where he was a student of Henri Busser , Jean and Noël Gallon . In the competition for the Prix ​​de Rome he won the second Grand Prix in 1934 and the first in 1935. From 1936 to 1939 he stayed in the Villa Medici in Rome .

From 1949 to 1975 he was artistic director of the Classical section of the record producer Pathé-Marconi . An edition of the works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, which the composer conducted himself, was published there in the early 1970s .

Challan composed an opera , three symphonies , several instrumental concerts and works for chamber music. He is the father of harpist Annie Challan .
