The five-toed jump vole ( Cardiocranius paradoxus ) is a little-known rodent that lives in parts of Kazakhstan , Tuva , Mongolia, and Xinjiang .
This jerboa has a head body length of 5 to 7 cm, the tail is slightly longer than the body. The fur is gray on the top and white on the underside. The tail is very thin at the base, but then suddenly thickens as if it were constricted. In addition to this unusual tail, this jerboa has a number of other features that clearly distinguish it from other species in the family: the bone structure of the hind feet; the number of five toes, the innermost of which is greatly shortened; the extremely small ears; the heart-shaped skull (hence the scientific name Cardiocranius ).
The habitat of the five-toed jump mouse is rocky deserts . Here they go in search of their vegetable food at night, especially seeds.
