Teresa Zurek (born July 29, 1998 in Potsdam ) is a German athlete who specializes in walking .

Career

Zurek starts out both on the train and on the street. She has already achieved national successes in both disciplines.

Going by train

On February 14, 2016, she took part in the German championship in 3000 meter track walking, which was held as part of the German Senior Indoor Championships in Erfurt . She prevailed in 13: 46.95 minutes ahead of Nicole Best and Lea Dederichs and secured her first German championship title in the hall. In the open-air season, she started at the German championships over 5000 meter lane walking and won in a time of 22: 14.94 minutes.

After successfully defending her indoor championship in track walking on March 5, 2017, she also succeeded in defending her title in front of Bianca Schenker at the German championships in 5000 meter track walking in Diez on September 16, 2017 in a time of 23: 43.16 seconds and Julia Richter . Due to her good performance, she was nominated for the 2017 U20 European Championships in Grosseto, Italy , where she finished second in the 10,000-meter walk on July 20, 2017 behind the Russian Jana Smerdowa, who started under a neutral flag .

On March 2, she secured victory in the 3,000-meter track walking at the German indoor championships for the third time in a row. In addition to her, only her teammate Saskia Feige competed in the competition .

Street walking

After becoming the German U20 champion in 10-kilometer walking in 2017, she started on April 14, 2018 at the German 20-kilometer walking championships in Naumburg . She completed the 20 kilometers in a time of 1:33:30 hours and thus set a new personal best. During this time she took third place behind Emilia Lehmeyer and Saskia Feige .

Teresa Zurek made her first appearance for the national team in 2018 at the World Walking Team Championships in Taicang . There she finished in 67th place after 1:38:23 hours. The highlight of the year was the start at the European Championships in Berlin , where she reached 20th place.
