The LV 90 Erzgebirge is an athletics club based in the Saxon Erzgebirgskreis . It was created in autumn 2011 from the LV 90 Thum club and is part of the Saxon state athletics base in Chemnitz / Erzgebirge.

history

The LV 90 Thum was founded in 1990 as an independent association from the athletics section of the BSG Lokomotive Thum. The section had the status of a training center (TZ) for athletics for the company sports communities Progress Ehrenfriedersdorf, Lok Thum and Werner Seelenbinder Gelenau of the then Zschopau district. The then TZ trainer Sven Lang was in charge of founding the association . Within a few years he and other comrades-in-arms established an important performance base, especially in the youth field. As a result of the renovation of the athletics facility, a plastic facility was also available from 1997, which now also offers better training conditions, especially for the running area. Due to Sven Lang's specialization in the field of throwing and bumping, shot putters from Thum in particular attracted international attention for a long time. The figurehead is the world champion Christina Schwanitz . In recent years, however, there have also been increasing successes in the running area, as exemplified by sprinter Rebekka Haase .

On October 20, 2011 the association LV 90 Erzgebirge was founded, which acts as a state athletics base in Chemnitz / Erzgebirge. The new name takes into account the meanwhile several training bases in the Erzgebirgskreis and creates a separation between the elite area and the area for children and youngsters. The original association LV 90 Thum, which was also responsible for Thumer Werfertag, was dissolved in 2016. At the same time a support association was founded. At the end of 2015, 13 trainers and instructors looked after around 260 athletes.
