Frank Schaffer becomes GDR champion in 1980

Frank Schaffer (born October 23, 1958 in Stalinstadt ) is a German athlete and Olympic medalist.

Schaffer was successful in the 400-meter run and won two medals for the GDR at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow : In the individual race he won the bronze medal (44.87 s), and in the 4 x 400-meter relay he won the silver medal with the GDR team (3: 03.4 min, together with Klaus Thiele , Andreas Knebel and Volker Beck ).

He also started at the European Athletics Championships in 1978 in the 400-meter run, but was eliminated in the preliminary run.

He belonged to the ASK Vorwärts Potsdam and trained with Wolfgang Gerhold . In his playing days he was 1.88 m tall and weighed 75 kg.

In 1984 Frank Schaffer resigned from active sport. In 1980 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
