Jonas Plass (born August 1, 1986 in Bamberg ) is a former German sprinter.

career path

In 2010 Plass completed his sports management / communication studies at the German Sport University Cologne . He then aimed for a master’s degree in media management & entrepreneurship at the Hochschule Fresenius Cologne. In the last semester of his "Media Management and Entrepreneurship" degree, Plass was supposed to develop a business plan in the "eves" project, now known as "Paradise", to implement the ADAMS doping control system (abbreviation for "Anti-Doping Administration and Management System “) Of the world anti-doping agency WADA to optimize for the benefit of the athletes, because so far top athletes have to register their whereabouts three months in advance in order to be found around the clock for unannounced doping controls. Anyone who cannot be found at the specified location risks a "missed test", three of which lead to a ban. As part of “Paradise”, athletes voluntarily carry a GPS transmitter with them, which can find their whereabouts in the event of a doping control. The National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) supports the official project of the Gekko mbH, in 1994 as a spin-off of the company Fraunhofer- founded, and where Plass holds a 20-hour job, and as the initiator that too from the Federal Ministry of Research funded project "Paradise “Looked after. Plass also works as a yoga teacher.

Athletic career

Plass began his sporting career as a basketball player at the age of six , first with TSV 1860 Rosenheim, then later with the Sportbund Rosenheim . During a stay abroad in Erie (Illinois) , USA, in 2003/2004, he found pleasure in the sprint disciplines of athletics. After returning to Rosenheim, he joined the athletics department of TSV 1860 Rosenheim in autumn 2004 and was accepted into the "Team Wendelstein" promotional squad in early 2005. At this point, he and his trainer Andreas Krämer started focused preparation for the 400-meter course.

In summer 2005 the first success followed with second place at the German Youth Championships in Braunschweig in a time of 47.83 s. The German Junior Championship followed a year later. In 2007 he had the opportunity to present himself internationally for the first time. At the U23 European Championships in Debrecen , Hungary, he finished ninth in the individual and narrowly missed the final. With the relay, he and his teammates won the surprising bronze medal. Shortly afterwards, he finished fifth at the German Championships and was nominated for the 4 x 400 meter relay for the World Championships in Osaka.

2008 was his biggest year of crisis so far. After a well-survived operation on both groins, a stress fracture in his left metatarsus followed shortly afterwards, which robbed him of any hope of participating in the Olympic Games in Beijing. The following year he had a big surprise at the German Championships in Ulm. After what had been a rather mediocre season up until then, the knot burst in the final and he finished second in 46.00 s and thus set a new personal best. For the relay at the World Championships in Berlin, however, Plass was only set up as a substitute.

In 2010 he was able to contribute to a third place at the European team championships in Bergen, Norway, with the 4 x 400 meter relay and later also to a fourth place at the European championships in Barcelona . In 2011 Plass won the German championship over 400 meters. At the World Championships that year he was eighth with the German relay. In 2012, Plass won the bronze medal with the relay (Jonas Plass, Kamghe Gaba , Eric Krüger , Thomas Schneider ) at the European Championships in Helsinki in 3: 01.77 minutes. At the Olympic Games in London, the relay was eliminated in the run-up.

Plass ended his sporting career in the 2016 Olympic year.
