Lars Figura (born March 25, 1976 in Bremen ) is a German lawyer and former athlete who specialized in the sprint discipline of the 400-meter run .

He attended the school center Flämische Straße in the Bremen district of Huchting and took part in the school sport competition Jugend trained for Olympia (JtfO) as a sprinter during his school days there from 1988 to 1991 . As the best result, he was able to book a second place in the national final. After moving to the Delfter Strasse school center, he also took part in the JtfO basketball tournament .

In 1996 Figura joined the youth soccer team of SV Werder Bremen , for which he also started, as a fitness coach . Between 1997 and 2002 Figura was a member of the German national athletics team. 1997 was simultaneously also the year in which he dealt with the bronze in the 400 meters at the German Indoor Championships and the same position with the German 4 x 400-meter relay at the U-23 European Championships in Finland Turka first podium at secured larger competitions. In the following events of the German indoor championships Figura was able to continuously improve its performance and won the silver medal in 1998, before the first German championship title followed in 1999. The indoor world championships in Maebashi in the same year he finished sixth in the finals. Together with his team-mates, he won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Ghent in 2000 , while he took an ungrateful fourth place in the individual final over 400 meters. On November 20, 2000, after several weeks of speculation, Figura's move from the Hanseatic city to the LG Olympia Dortmund was officially announced.

From a sporting point of view, Lars Figura experienced his most successful year in 2001, when he achieved the double victory for the German championship title over 400 meters and with the relay in both the indoor and outdoor championships. In addition, he won third place with the relay at the European Cup in his hometown of Bremen. At the World Championships held a few weeks later in Edmonton , Canada , the German 4 x 400 meter relay with Figura took seventh and last place in the final.

In spring 2002 there was a week-long dispute about another change of club Figuras, which attracted national attention. The LG Olympia Dortmund had given him and other athletes to understand on September 24, 2001 that there were financial problems and that the athletes were free to look for a new club against the background of the no longer available liquidity. However, the deadline for switching expired on November 30th and the Dortmunders refused to decide on the Figura case before January. A provisional decision by the DLV Legal Committee enabled him on February 16, 2002 to make his first start for VfL Wolfsburg in the course of the Lower Saxony Indoor Championships, although LG Olympia pushed for compliance with the contract and was initially able to record a partial success in the DLV Federal Committee for Competition Organization . On March 25, the legal committee confirmed the right to start, as the Westphalia Football and Athletics Association had failed to pass on the reasons for refusing approval to the Lower Saxony Athletics Association in due time and form, which had given Figura the right to start for Wolfsburg on January 3 . From a sporting point of view, the year 2002 was dominated for the Bremen man by the European Championships in Munich , which would be his last major competition. Again he finished seventh and last place in the final with the relay. In autumn 2002 Figura fell ill and suffered from gastrointestinal problems and a rash on her face for several weeks . According to two medical reports, the athlete showed symptoms of a mold infection. He himself attributed this to the consumption of a contaminated bottle of the soft drink Coca-Cola on October 12 and sued the group for 50,000 euros in damages the following year . After his recovery, he could no longer catch up with the German competition.

On July 13th, 2004 Figura announced his retirement from active sport and gave as reasons for this decision bad training conditions in Bremen, lack of motivation and the unclean methods of the competition, but also the desire to finish his law studies. He was at the University of Bremen enrolled and received his doctorate in 2008 on "Doping: Between freedom and necessary legal ban" for Doctor of Law . He has been practicing as a licensed attorney since 2009. Figura is a member of the Sports Law Working Group of the German Lawyers' Association and the Youth Training for Olympics Commission of the German School Sports Foundation and is also the godfather of youth training for the Olympics .
