The 14th German Athletics Championships took place in Dresden on August 20, 1911 . Exceptions were the 100 km street walking - June 4th in Hamburg - and the newly added decathlon - October 15th in Münster .

In addition, a marathon took place again - in Frankfurt am Main on August 13th, this time over 40 km, which, however, was not officially part of the championship competitions until 1924, but was carried out independently as the "German Marathon".

New disciplines compared to the previous year were the javelin throw and the decathlon .

Richard Rau set a new German record over 200 m with 22.0 seconds.
