Hans Liesche (born October 11, 1891 in Hamburg , † March 30, 1979 in Berlin ) was a German athlete and Olympic medalist .
At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , Liesche achieved second place in the high jump with a personal best of 1.91 m, behind the American gold medalist Alma Richards , who also crossed 1.91 m. Liesche defeated world record holder George Horine in third place with 1.89 m, who a few weeks before the Olympic Games with a new style that went down in sports history as a western roller , was the first person to jump over two meters.
Liesche won his first German championship title in 1911 and repeated this success in 1912, 1913 and 1915 after the German championships were canceled in 1914. In 1918 he finished second and in 1919 he was third.
Hans Liesche started for Eimsbüttel TV . In his playing days he was 1.88 m tall and weighed 67 kg. He spent the last years of his life in West Berlin .
