Paul Weinstein

Paul Weinstein (born April 5, 1878 in Wallendorf , † August 16, 1964 in Wiemelhausen ( near Bochum )) was a German athlete .

Career

In the high jump of the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, he reached 1.77 m, the same height as the second, Garrett Serviss from the USA, but lost the following playoff. In the pole vault he was seventh.

He also took part in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens in five jumping disciplines and in the javelin throw, but remained without medal success:

Paul Weinstein, grandson of a converted Jew, started for the LC Sportfreunde Halle like his younger brother Albert Weinstein . From 1926 to 1948, the scientist with a doctorate was head of the chemical investigation office of the city of Bochum . As the second chairman of TuS Bochum (a predecessor of VfL Bochum ), he was instrumental in making Bochum an important location for athletics , not least because of the international fighting games .
