Life
Marlene Fuchs grew up with her brother and sister in the Euskirchen district of Großbüllesheim , where her parents ran a grocery store. Her athletic talent first came to light in 1952, when the ten-year-old achieved the best number of points in the three-way battle at the National Youth Games. She then joined the ETSC . She was sponsored by her father, who accompanied her to all competitions, by association sports teacher Werner Frey and later by the Leverkusen starter coach Gerd Osenberg , although she always competed for Euskirchen. She competed in her first competition in 1957 at the youth championships in Schweinfurt . Two years later she was able to win the title in the shot put and in the discus throw . In 1960 she was rewarded for her achievements in the pentathlon and in the throwing disciplines with a free ticket to the Olympic Games in Rome , but did not take part in the competitions there.
She missed qualifying for the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo by nine centimeters. Four years later, she qualified for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , where she reached the final battle and came in seventh with 17.11 m.
Between 1961 and 1972 she played a total of 40 international matches. Her personal best is 17.54 m.
Fuchs worked as a freelance children's gymnastics teacher. She has been married since 1966 and has two children.
