Ruth Engelhard

Ruth Engelhard , née Ruth Becker (born January 3, 1909 in Lichterfelde , † October 22, 1975 in Darmstadt ) was a German athlete who was a successful 80-meter hurdler in the 1930s .

At the 4th Women's World Games on August 11, 1934 in London , she won the 80-meter hurdles in 11.6 s and improved the existing world record by a tenth of a second.

She was also involved in two relay world records: On July 20, 1929 she ran (under the name Ruth Becker) in Frankfurt am Main in the 10 x 100 meter run in a relay of the SC Brandenburg , which had a finishing time of 2 : Reached 05.3 min. On June 26, 1932, the German national relay ran a world record of 1: 45.8 minutes in the 4 x 200 meter run in Neurössen .

She won four German championships: three times in the 80-meter hurdles (1929, 1933 and 1934) and one with the 4-by-100-meter relay of SV Siemens Berlin in 1934.

Ruth Engelhard belonged to the sports club SC Brandenburg Berlin until 1932 , then to SV Siemens Berlin . At a height of 1.59 m, she had a competition weight of 50 kg. She was married to Hermann Engelhard from 1932 .
