Hermann Westerhaus

Hermann Westerhaus (* 1900 in Latvia , † 1973 ) was a German athlete , lecturer at the German University for Physical Education in Berlin , elementary school teacher and sports scientist in teacher training.

Career

As a track and field athlete, Hermann Westerhaus was very versatile. He achieved his outstanding placement in a competition in 1924 when he won the German championship of the decathletes . Westerhaus started for the Berlin sports club .

Westermann studied at the German University for Physical Education. In 1923 the student was awarded the August beer badge by his university for his achievements . He passed the physical education teacher examination in 1925.

Until 1930 Westerhaus was a lecturer at the German University for Physical Education. From 1933 he was an army sports instructor in Wünsdorf . Westermann was not a member of the NSDAP or a member of a National Socialist formation.

Before the 1936 Summer Olympics , he was a member of the group of Olympic trainers and prepared German athletes for the competitions in Berlin.

Westermann was appointed as a university teacher in 1947 by the University of Education, the Adolf Reichwein University of Celle , after initially working as a primary school teacher in the Soviet occupation zone . Until his retirement, he worked as a professor in the training of educators at the University of Education Osnabrück , also in Lower Saxony , after the University of Education (PH) Celle was relocated to Osnabrück, to the newly founded PH there.

After the end of the Second World War , the sports scientist officiated as chairman of the physical education institutions at universities of teacher education . In this function, the university professor was the organizer of the first congress of the German Physical Education Committee (ADL) "The Game" in Osnabrück in October 1958. The keynote lecture at the first sports teacher congress in the Federal Republic of Germany, in front of more than 500 participants, was given by Carl Diem .
