Pascal Behrenbruch (born January 19, 1985 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German athlete who competes in the decathlon . His greatest success is winning the European Championship in 2012 .

Athletic career

Pascal Behrenbruch came to athletics at the age of six. At the age of 15 he became German champion in eight combat , also Hessian champion in eight combat, high jump , shot put , discus throw and javelin throw .

In 2002 Behrenbruch won the German championship in javelin and decathlon in the B-youth. For four years he held the German record in the B-youth (male under 18 years of age), which was improved on September 2, 2006 by Jan Felix Knobel . In 2003 he was German champion in the decathlon in the youth class , a year later he was runner-up in javelin throw and Hessian champion in shot put, discus and javelin throw.

Behrenbruch was only nominated for the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg because the indoor world champion and fourth in the Helsinki World Championships , André Niklaus , had to cancel due to a foot injury. In this competition he was the best German fifth with 8209 points and increased his personal best by ten points. In 2007 he finished second at the U-23 European Championships in Debrecen , improving his best performance to 8239 points.

After a narrowly missed Olympic qualification in 2008, Behrenbruch set a new personal record at the all-around meeting in Götzis, Austria on May 31, 2009 with 8374 points and thus achieved third place. At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , he finished sixth and was able to improve his own record by 65 points to 8439 points.

In 2010, at the start of the Götzis season, he just exceeded the norm for the European Championships in Barcelona . After an injury, however, he had to provide proof of performance, which the German Athletics Association considered to have failed after the national championships. Behrenbruch took legal action against this decision, but was unsuccessful. In Talence , he achieved a conciliatory end to the season with a German annual best of 8202 points and second place.

At the 2011 World Championships , Behrenbruch was seventh. His greatest success to date was achieved the following year at the European Championships in 2012 , when he won the title with a new personal best of 8558 points. It was the first gold in the men's decathlon for a German athlete since 1971 . At the Olympic Games in London in the same year he was tenth.

With 8,514 points, Behrenbruch qualified for the 2013 World Championships in Moscow , where he finished 11th with 8,316 points.

In the following years he could no longer come close to these services. Before qualifying for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he tore a muscle fiber in his thigh.

Behrenbruch starts for the LG Eintracht Frankfurt . He is trained by Jürgen Sammert. His current competition weight is 96 kg and he is 1.96 m tall.

In June 2006 he finished his training as an IT businessman. He works as a sports advisor for executives at the airport company Fraport at Frankfurt Airport . Behrenbruch became a father in 2016.

In 2018 he took part in the sixth season of the reality show Promi Big Brother , in which he was voted out first.
