Jan Felix Knobel
Jan Felix Knobel (born January 16, 1989 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) is a former German decathlete .
At the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Bydgoszcz , he won the decathlon title with 7896 points. In the final statement, his lead over second-placed Belarusian Eduard Michan was just two points.
At the German all- around championships in 2009 , Knobel took part in the adult class, although he would still have been eligible to start in the juniors, and secured victory with 7738 points.
Knobel's personal best is 8288 points, which he achieved at the end of May 2011 at the international meeting in Götzis . Shortly afterwards he started as a favorite at the U23 European Championships 2011 in Ostrava. After a fall in the 110-meter hurdles , however, he had to bury all hopes for a medal. He also did not finish the final 1,500 meter run and ended up in 19th place with 6774 points. At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , he reached eighth place with 8200 points.
In 2012, Knobel initially came second at the Ratingen all- around meeting with 8228 points, but the original winner Larbi Bourrada was later disqualified. At the Olympic Games in London , Knobel had to give up injured.
In 2015 he won the Thorpe Cup with 8,045 points, which was the fifth time that he exceeded the 8,000 point mark.
In 2017 he had an operation on both feet because he had complaints that had previously forced him to abandon competitions.
On November 9, 2018, Knobel announced his departure from the decathlon, but left it open whether he would continue to compete in individual disciplines.
Jan Felix Knobel has been working for the Königsteiner LV since 2015 and was a. a. trained by the Hessian national coach all around Philipp Schlesinger. He studied architecture at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden. After completing his architecture degree, Knobel has been working in a planning office since the beginning of 2018 and wants to study real estate economics alongside his job .
