Fritz Köppen (born June 28, 1935 in Berlin - Charlottenburg ) is a former German athlete . He competed in the long jump and in the decathlon .

biography

Fritz Köppen, who started for SC Einheit Dresden , was GDR decathlon champion in 1957 . In the following years he specialized in the long jump and was also able to become German champion in this discipline in Leipzig in 1959 . In the three following years he won bronze every time. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , however, he did not manage to qualify for the final in the long jump , and took 19th place.
