Mathias Brugger (born August 6, 1992 in Illertissen , Neu-Ulm district , Bavaria ) is a German athlete . He competes in the decathlon , indoor heptathlon and in individual disciplines.

career path

In June 2014, Brugger finished his training as a financial assistant, but since the combination of work and competitive sport was very stressful for him, he decided not to offer a subsequent course of study and agreed with his employer on leave.

Athletic career

At first Brugger played handball and soccer , but because his mother did not advocate team sports , she recommended him to athletics.

In 2011 Brugger was Germany's best U20 athlete and was runner-up at the Junior European Championships in Tallinn . With the participation in the European Championships 2012 in Helsinki for the active, he continued his path of success, but had to abandon the competition there after the seventh discipline, and a streak of bad luck followed. But Brugger found his way back to his form.

In 2014, Brugger achieved his second-best decathlon result to date at the Thorpe Cup in Marburg at the end of July with 7829 points.

In 2015 he took 2nd place at the international indoor all-around meeting in Tallinn .

In 2016 Brugger became German indoor runner-up . At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland (Oregon) in 2016 , he finished third in the indoor heptathlon with a personal best of 6,126 points. In June he was nominated for the European Championships in Amsterdam . There he finished 9th with 7886 points.

In 2017 Brugger finished eighth in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade with 5954 points . At the beginning of May he increased his best performance in the decathlon at the Central German All-Around Championships in Halle / Saale to 8031 ​​points. Three weeks later, at the Götzis all- around meeting, he achieved a further increase to 8294 points.

Formerly with SF Illerrieden , he started for SSV Ulm in 1846 .
