Rainer Sonnenburg

Rainer Sonnenburg (born October 2, 1960 in Hamburg ) is a German former decathlete . His greatest success was winning the German championship in the decathlon. Since the end of his active career, Sonnenburg has been working as a fitness trainer in top sport. He looked after several Olympic, world and European champions in different sports.

Career as an athlete

Rainer Sonnenburg was trained as a student by his father, Wolfgang Sonnenburg, and as a teenager by Günther Genuneit. In 1985 Sonnenburg represented Germany at the Universade in Kobe (Japan). He celebrated his greatest successes with the LG Wedel Pinneberg under coach Heinz J. Gabriel. This includes winning the German championship in the decathlon in 1988 in Rhede.

Professional background

Sonnenburg graduated from the University of Hamburg with a degree in economics . Since ending his active career as a competitive athlete, he has been working as a fitness trainer in various sports.

National Hockey Team

As the responsible base trainer, he has been responsible for the German Hockey Association since 1999 . V. several Olympic champions and medalists at the Olympic Games and at World and European Championships. Moritz Fürste , Tobias Hauke , Christian Blunck , Florian Fuchs and Janne Müller-Wieland are among the most successful hockey players coached by Sonnenburg .

Hockey Bundesliga

With the men's team of the Harvestehuder Tennis and Hockey Club , Sonnenburg won the European Cup as a fitness coach in 1995 and 1997 and the German championship in 1996 and 1998. In 1997 his team won the German Cup and in 1994 and 1996 the German championship in the hall.

Soccer

The HSV Sonnenburg has supervised as conditioning coach in the season 1,992th The players included Thomas von Hessen , Thomas Helmer , Markus Babbel , Karsten Bäron and Richard Golz .

At FC St. Pauli from 1994 to 1997 and 2003 he worked as a senior fitness trainer in both the second and first division . The squad included Jens Scharping and Bernd Hollerbach .

From 1997 to 1998 Sonnenburg was under contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf as a fitness coach.

Dance sport

Frank and Andrea Knief were trained by Sonnenburg. In 1992 they won the World Championship of Amateurs over 10 dances in Moscow (Russia).
