Renate Gardener

Renate Gärtner (born October 1, 1952 in Leimenhof in the Fulda district ) is a former German athlete . She was multiple German champion in the women's high jump and Olympic participant at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich . She preferred the straddling style .

Life

She competed from 1966 to 1968 for TV Flieden , from 1969 to 1972 for SG Schlüchtern and from 1973 to the end of her career in 1980 for Eintracht Frankfurt .

Renate Gärtner has lived in Schlüchtern since 1995 . There she worked at the Ulrich-von-Hutten-Gymnasium as a senior teacher in the subjects of sport and geography until the end of her professional career in 2016.

successes

  • In 1969 she jumped her first national record for the Federal Republic of Germany with 1.72 m. At the German Youth Championships she was able to improve this record with 1.73 m. She also became German champion in the adult class in 1969.
  • In 1970 she competed at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna, but only finished 13th with 1.65 m. In the open-air season, she increased the national record three times to 1.78 m. With 1.74 m she won bronze at the European Youth Championships in Paris. At the German championship she was second behind Karen Mack .
  • In 1971 Gärtner improved the national record at the German championships with 1.83 m and won her second title. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 1971 , she was sixth with 1.81 m.
  • In 1972 she was second behind the 17-year-old Ellen Mundinger with 1.79 m . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , however, both were overshadowed by the 16-year-old Olympic champion Ulrike Meyfarth , Gärtner was only 14th with 1.82 m.
  • In 1973 Gärtner jumped her personal best with 1.84 m. At the German Championships she was second behind Ulrike Meyfarth. With 1.75 m she took eighth place at the Universiade in Moscow.
  • In 2000 Renate Gärtner won the German Senior Women Championships in Schweinfurt in the age group W45 and was again German champion with 1.50 m. At the Senior European Championships for Athletes in Jyväskylä, Finland, she won the bronze medal in the high jump with 1.45 m.

In 2001 she was fourth in her specialty at the Senior World Championships in Brisbane / Australia; in the shot put she came in tenth place.

Even after her time as a high-performance athlete, Renate Gärtner is still committed to the sport. The President of the State Sports Association of Hesse, Rolf Müller , nominated her as an Olympic ambassador, along with other Hessian athletes, to promote the vision of "Olympics in the Rhine-Main Region 2012".
