History of the State Sports Association of Hesse

The logo of the lsb h

In May 1946 Heinz Lindner received the order from the American military government to invite to a conference in which the reorganization of sport in Hesse was to be dealt with. The conference took place on June 1, 1946 in Mörfelden near Frankfurt a. M., instead of and at the end of this conference, the establishment of the state sports federation was decided. Heinz Lindner was elected the first president of the sports association by representatives of the sports associations and sports districts. In April 1947, the State Sports Association of Hesse rented a house in Goethestrasse in Frankfurt , which initially served as an office. The main task of the State Sports Association of Hesse in the first few years was primarily to train instructors for the sports activities of the clubs. In May 1954 the decision was made to build its own sports school in Frankfurt am Main , and in November 1957 the foundation stone was laid in the Frankfurt city forest.

In December 1963, the first trainer training with a license examination was completed; to date, well over 20,000 people have been licensed as trainers. The financial support of the clubs by the Sportbund started in 1966 and was thus an important part of the continuous growth. The new office and the sports school were completed in 1975 in the Otto-Fleck-Schneise in the Frankfurt city forest, the office in Goethestrasse could no longer be used due to lack of space. In 1985 the State Sports Association of Hesse took part in the Hessentag for the first time . In 2000 the lsb h received a seat and vote in the broadcasting council of the Hessischer Rundfunk ; this requirement has been made since the company was founded in 1946. In 2001, the promotion of sport was included as a state goal in the Hessian state constitution and thus equated with other state goals. Today, a third of all Hessians belong to a sports club that is a member of the state sports association.
