Reinhard Häussler

Reinhard Häußler (born May 3, 1927 in Stuttgart , † December 25, 2005 in Essen ) was a German classical philologist .

Life

Reinhard Häußler, the son of the director of studies Max Häußler, attended the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in his hometown and then studied classical philology at the universities of Freiburg and Tübingen . On July 29, 1961 he received his doctorate in Freiburg with the dissertation Tacitus and historical consciousness . From 1968 he worked as a research assistant at the newly founded seminar for classical philology at the University of Düsseldorf (with Ilona Opelt ). He achieved his habilitation in 1973 in Freiburg, but in 1975 he was re-qualified at the University of Düsseldorf. Here he was appointed university lecturer in 1974, extraordinary professor in 1976 and professor in 1980. In 1992 he was released.

Häußler was particularly concerned with ancient historiography and with historical dimensions in other genres. The work of the Roman historian Tacitus formed a focus of his research .
