The State Sports Association for the Saarland ( LSVS ), based at the Hermann Neuberger Sports School in Saarbrücken, is the umbrella organization of the Saarland sports associations and clubs. It is a corporation under public law .

Its mission is to provide financial, moral and administrative promotion and support of latitude and competitive sports . This includes the distribution of the funds allocated to him by law (so-called Sportachtel ) from the income of Saarland-Sporttoto GmbH. It also promotes the implementation of large sporting events and the construction of sports facilities. For example, the Hermann Neuberger Sports School has been expanded at great expense in recent years.

The LSVS also participates in the financing of the Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland Olympic base and is a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) .

With around 440,000 members, it is the largest personal association in Saarland.

At the beginning of 2018, a financial scandal at the LSVS became known. In the course of this, President Klaus Meiser came under fire. The Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office initiated criminal investigations against him on suspicion of breach of trust and the granting of advantages. His immunity as a member of parliament was lifted, and there were calls from state politics for his resignation, both as state parliament president and as president of the state sports association. In February he resigned as President of the State Parliament, and that of the LSVS President at the end of April.
