Frisia Wilhelmshaven is a sports club from Wilhelmshaven . The first soccer team plays in the national league . In the 1964/65 season one belonged to the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony.

history

The association was founded on July 7, 1903 by some students. This makes Frisia the oldest football club in town. In 1909 they reached the final round of the North German Championship for the first time, where they lost 3-2 to Bremen SC 1891 in the quarter-finals . A year later Frisia again advanced to the North German finals and lost to Werder Bremen 3: 4 in the quarterfinals . In the third participation in the North German Championship, the quarter-finals were also the end of the line. This time they were clearly defeated by the Bremen SC 1891 with 0: 5. In 1925 they made the leap into the then first-class Weser / Jade regional league , in which they played against relegation for three years. After the football revolution , which caused the failure of all northern German leagues in the 1928/29 season, Frisia was relegated to the second division.

After the Second World War , the club was re-established as WSC Frisia Wilhelmshaven and missed qualification for the newly created amateur league Lower Saxony- West in 1949 . The first leg at Victoria Oldenburg was lost 4-0, in the second leg Frisia won 4-0. Oldenburg won the deciding game 1-0. Then Frisia had to continue playing in the third-class amateur league 1 . In 1951 Frisia merged with TuS Heppens to form WSV Frisia from 1895 Wilhelmshaven .

In 1954 Frisia was relegated from the amateur league and returned three years later. In the 1957/58 season, the team managed the feat of becoming champions as a climber. However, the climb was missed. After a runner-up in 1964 Frisia was able to celebrate the championship again a year later and rose to the Lower Saxony state league , which was the highest division in Lower Saxony from 1964 on. You could only stay there for a year and the team had to be relegated as the penultimate.

This was followed by eight years in the fourth-class Verbandsliga Nord , where they came third in 1967 and 1968. In 1973 Frisia was the penultimate relegation and has only played on a regional level since then. After relegation in 2011, the team plays in the regional league Friesland / Wilhelmshaven / Wesermarsch . In 2015, after a very successful season in the regional league Friesland / Wilhelmshaven / Wesermarsch, he was promoted to the regional league, which was followed by promotion to the regional league five years later.
