Fritz Koepke

Fritz Köpke (born January 21, 1902 in Plathe , Regenwalde district , † November 18, 1991 in Speyer ) was a German athlete who specialized in the high jump . The athlete, who started for SC Preußen Stettin , took part in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.

Life

Köpke started out as a long jumper and as a runner over 110 m hurdles . In both disciplines, he came third at the German Championships in 1924.

The following year he repeated this placement in the high jump. This was followed by two runner-up championships in 1927 and 1930 and two championship titles in 1929 and 1931. In the Olympic year of 1928 he was unable to place, but achieved a personal best with a jump of 1.92 m and was nominated for the Games in Amsterdam with Wolf Boneder and Fritz Huhn ( Due to the role played by the German Reich in the First World War, no German athletes were invited to the games in Paris in 1924 and Antwerp in 1920 ).

All three athletes initially jumped 1.83 m and thus qualified for the final. There Fritz Köpke climbed to 1.84 m and was eleven as the best German. (Wolfgang Boneder and Fritz Huhn came in 15th and 17th with a jump of 1.80 m and 1.70 m, respectively; US American Bob King won with 1.94 m).

Fritz Köpke was 1.80 m tall and weighed 78 kg during his active time.
