Gunda Friedrich

Gunda Kämpf (born as Gunda Friedrich ) (born September 14, 1920 in Buttenheim ) is a former German athlete .

Life

In the mid-1930s, she and her family moved from Fürth to Würzburg . She initially practiced gymnastics and competed in her first athletics competition in Gerolzhofen in 1935 .

Under her maiden name Gunda Friedrich, she finished second in the high jump at the German athletics championships in 1936 in the colors of the TG Würzburg . She lived in the Olympic Village during the 1936 Summer Olympics but was not registered for the competitions.

In 1938 she became German high jump champion, in 1939 third in the German Championship, in 1940 and 1943 she won the German championship again. In the meantime, she also represented 1. FC 1905 Schweinfurt . Her high jump performance was 1.65 meters.

During the Second World War she was a secretary for the Hitler Youth in Würzburg, then a worker at the Fichtel & Sachs company  in Schweinfurt. In 1943 she married the ophthalmologist Richard Kämpf. She got a job as a medical assistant to her father-in-law. In January 1944, at the Reich Ministry of Aviation in Berlin , she arranged for her husband, who was working as a medical officer, to be transferred from Russia to Oberföhring . She gave birth to four sons, of whom Georg , Hans and Thomas became known as basketball players in Bayreuth .
