Werner Pfeil (born December 19, 1937 in Jüterbog ) is a former German athlete from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) who was seventh in the high jump at the European Championships in 1962 .

In 1956 and 1957, Pfeil finished second behind Günter Lein at the GDR championships. In 1958 he exceeded the German record of Lein with 2.05 m and was also GDR champion before Lein. Pfeil was able to qualify for the all-German team at the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 , where he finished ninth with 1.99 m. In 1959 he improved his own record to 2.08 m and won his second title at the GDR championships. After his third championship title, Pfeil also qualified for the 1960 Olympic Games , but could not jump in Rome due to an injury.

In 1961 and 1963, Pfeil did not place in the GDR championships, in 1962 he took second place behind Gerd Dührkop . At the European Championships in Belgrade in 1962 , Dührkop jumped to sixth place, while Pfeil finished seventh with 2.03 m. In 1964, arrow won the championship again after four years, but he could not qualify for the Olympic Games. In 1966, Pfeil won two GDR championship titles, indoors and outdoors. On July 3rd he jumped 2.14 m in Cottbus; thus he improved Dührkop's GDR record and set Wolfgang Schillkowski's all-German record . At the European Championships in Budapest in 1966 , he was then surprisingly eliminated with 2.00 m in the qualification. In 1967, arrow won again at the indoor championships, at the European indoor games he crossed 2.08 m and took eighth place. At the GDR championships in 1967, Pfeil was defeated by Rudi Köppen from Berlin with 2.12 m , and at the end of September he improved the GDR record to 2.15 m. In 1968, Pfeil was again second in the championship behind Köppen. In August 1968 he achieved the highest jump of his career with 2.16 m and the setting of the GDR record that Joachim Kirst had set in the meantime.

During his long career, Pfeil competed for an unusually large number of clubs. In 1956 he started for the ZSK Vorwärts Berlin , a year later the association was called ASK Berlin . From 1958 to 1960 he belonged to the SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt , in 1962 he started for the SC activist Brieske-Senftenberg . From 1964, Pfeil was then at SC Cottbus . Arrow had a competition weight of 77 kg with a height of 1.88 m. Pfeil was a mining engineer by profession.
