National successes

Spielvogel won a total of five German championship titles between 1964 and 1971:

International successes

Spielvogel also appeared several times on an international level, celebrating his greatest success at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City . Initially, he benefited from the fact that fewer than twelve athletes mastered the required qualifying height of 2.14 m and thus all 2.12-meter jumpers, including Spielvogel, advanced to the final. But then he improved and was the best German participant (seventh place) with 2.14 m skipped in the second attempt, ahead of Ingomar Sieghart (ninth place) and the reigning German champion Thomas Zacharias (14th place). He had been denied participation in the games four years earlier in Tokyo as fourth in the German championships. Although he was able to qualify for the 1972 Games in Munich , he had to cancel due to an injury.

Spielvogel took part in two European championships - in 1966 in Budapest and 1971 in Helsinki - but failed both times in the qualification. He was more successful at the European Indoor Games, the forerunner of the European Indoor Athletics Championships, where he participated in two final fights: in 1967 in Prague he was fifth with 2.08 m, and in 1968 in Madrid with 2.05 m fourteenth. He also competed in Belgrade the following year , but had no valid attempt.

His personal best is 2.18 m, which he jumped on September 12, 1971 in Mainz .
