Refrath is a district of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs to the statistics district 6 of the city under No. 61.
Location and surroundings
When the two cities of Bergisch Gladbach and Bensberg were merged to form the new city of Bergisch Gladbach in 1975, the old Bensberg district of Refrath was divided into the new districts of Refrath, Alt Refrath , Kippekausen and Lustheide . Together with the previously independent district of Frankenforst , these districts form the so-called statistical district 6 of the city of Bergisch Gladbach and the zip code area 51427 . The name Refrath is made up of the part of the name Ref, which means something like "shore" and rath, which translates as "clearing".
The Frankenforstbach flows in the south of Refrath. Coming from Bensberg it first passes the districts of Frankenforst and Lustheide and then flows through Refrath and crosses the city limits to Cologne . There his name changes to Bruchbach . North of Cologne-Merheim , it joins the Flehbach to form the Faulbach .
history
The opinion held by Gerd Müller that the history of Refrath began in 855 with a clearing permit from Emperor Lothar I to son-in-law Count Giselbert II can be ruled out according to recent research. The first reliable written evidence can only be found in the 12th century.
In the year 1586 140 to 150 people lived in Refrath, after the Thirty Years' War 29 goods can be proven in the Refrath area for the years 1648 to 1660. The quarry work on the Steinbreche for the Bensberg Castle began around 1700, and the Steinbreche House was built in 1712 .
The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Porz , proves that the residential area was categorized as a church village in 1715 and was named Rafrath .
Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Raefrath . It shows that Refrath was part of the Refrath honor in the parish of Bensberg at that time .
Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the Porz office was dissolved and Refrath was politically assigned to Mairie Bensberg in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district .
The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey of 1840 as Refrath . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets .
Due to the Cologne Act , the city of Bensberg was merged with Bergisch Gladbach to form the city of Bergisch Gladbach with effect from January 1, 1975. Refrath also became part of Bergisch Gladbach.
