Lehmbroich is a district in the Refrath district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name of the settlement Lehmbroich corresponds to the old name Im Lehmbroich , which is recorded in the original cadastre in the area of today's street Am Lehmbruch . The defining word clay is derived from the Old High German glue (= clay, silt). The basic word broich probably indicates the place where the clay was cut. The clay obtained was used for backfilling half-timbered houses and building brook ovens. According to a second meaning of broich (= moorland, swampy shrub plot , forest), Lehmbruch could also have referred to a loamy, swampy area.
