Steinbreche is a district in the Refrath district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The settlement name Steinbreche goes back to the quarries that were created there in connection with the construction of Bensberg Castle between 1702 and 1712. Here was the now completely dismantled Alabasterberg , the marble of which was not only used in Bensberg Castle, but also in Brühl Castle and other buildings in the Rhineland . In addition, shell limestone was supplied as raw material for the lime kiln in Keppinghausen (= Kippekausen ) according to the original cadastre . Furthermore, you won Grauwackesteine that in place of masons hewed and then by donkeys and mules to Bensberg were carried up to the palace.

A short time later, the name Steinbreche was transferred to a nearby estate, namely Haus Steinbreche , which was built in 1712 by Leonard Goudhaire . He had the grounds for his services as a stonemason from Jan Wellem get the builder of Schloss Bensberg, paid. Today, however, these buildings are located in the Alt Refrath district , while the area of the former quarries as well as the formerly surrounding farmland belong to the Refrath district.

Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Steinbreck . It shows that Steinbreche was part of the Refrath Honschaft in the parish of Bensberg at that time .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the Porz office was dissolved and Steinbreche was politically assigned to the Mairie in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey of 1840 as a quarry . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Steinbruch or without a name.

Due to the Cologne Act , the city of Bensberg was merged with Bergisch Gladbach to form the city of Bergisch Gladbach with effect from January 1, 1975. Steinbreche also became part of Bergisch Gladbach.
