Canton of Bensberg

The canton of Bensberg was a canton in the department of the Rhine from 1807 to 1813.

history

After the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Berg in 1806, the grand-ducal administration set about organizing the country according to the administrative structures known in France in October 1807 . The old structures and offices - including the Porz office - were dissolved. The Bergische national territory was divided into departments , arrondissements , cantons and Mairien .

The canton of Bensberg belonged to the arrondissement of Mülheim am Rhein in the Rhine department . He was divided into the Mairien Bensberg , Odenthal , Gladbach and Rösrath . The Mairie Gladbach was not created until 1808 and the Mairie Bensberg another year later in 1809. After the collapse of Napoleonic rule, the arrondissements were dissolved. On January 27, 1814, the provisional district of Mülheim am Rhein , to which the canton of Bensberg belonged, was finally formed in the Berg Generalgouvernement . The four mairies of the canton continued to exist as mayors in the Prussian district of Mülheim am Rhein.

The canton was divided into four mairies, which included the following areas.

Mairie Bensberg

The Mairie was formed from the Freedom Bensberg , Honschaft Bensberg , Honschaft Herkenrath , Honschaft Immekeppel , Honschaft Eschbach , Honschaft Refrath and Honschaft Dürscheid . This corresponded to the former Herkenrath messenger office .

Mairie Odenthal

The Mairie encompassed the parish of Odenthal together with all the localities belonging to it. This corresponded to the earlier rule of Odenthal .

Mairie Gladbach

The Mairie comprised the Honschaft Combüchen , Honschaft Paffrath , Honschaft Gladbach , Honschaft Gronau and Honschaft Sand . This corresponded to the former Gladbach messenger office .

Mairie Rösrath

The Mairie included the Honors Volberg , Honors Forsbach , Honors Bleifeld , Honors Lughausen , Honors Rösrath , Honors Menzlingen and Honors Hasbach . This corresponded to the former Volberg messenger office .
