Arrondissement of Mülheim am Rhein
The Arrondissement of Mülheim was an administrative unit in the Grand Duchy of Berg under French rule between 1806 and 1813.
Location and description
After the Duchy of Berg fell to Napoleon Bonaparte on March 15, 1806 , the Grand Duchy of Berg was formed in the same year. Soon after the takeover, the French administration began to introduce administrative structures based on the French model. It provided for the creation of departments , arrondissements , cantons and municipalities ( called Mairies from the end of 1808 ) and broke with the old nobility prerogatives in local government. In this train the arrondissement (district) Mülheim in the department of Rhine was created.
The arrondissement essentially comprised the area of the Bergisch office Porz and the parishes Overath and Lindlar from the office Steinbach as well as parts of the office Löwenburg , the office Blankenberg , the office Lülsdorf and the glory Vilich .

The arrondissement was divided into six cantons (districts) and had 72,924 inhabitants when it was founded.
