Canton of Siegburg
The canton of Siegburg (French: Canton de Siegbourg ) was one of six administrative units into which the arrondissement of Mülheim am Rhein in the department of the Rhine was divided. The canton existed from 1808 to 1816 and was part of the Grand Duchy of Berg (1808–1813) under French administration and the Generalgouvernement of Berg (1813–1815) under Prussian administration.
history
Until the beginning of the 19th century, the administrative district of the canton of Siegburg belonged to the duchy of Berg . In 1806 the area was opened in connection with the formation of the Rhine Confederation in the Grand Duchy of Berg . On November 14, 1808, Napoléon Bonaparte , then Grand Duke von Berg, ordered a territorial reorganization that resulted in the formation of departments , arrondissements and cantons. After December 18, 1808, the “Provincial and Municipal Administrative Regulations for the Grand Duchy of Berg” were followed by the formation of Mairien (mayor 's offices ).
After the transfer of the Grand Duchy to the General Government of Berg in November 1813, the departments and arrondissements were dissolved, the cantons and thus the canton of Siegburg remained in existence. Its administrative area became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 with the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna and in 1816 it became part of the Siegburg district .
