Baron Panmure
Baron Panmure , of Brechin and Navar in the County of Forfar , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created on September 10, 1831 for longtime MP William Maule . He was born William Ramsay and was the second son of George Ramsay, 8th Earl of Dalhousie . William Maule, 1st Earl of Panmure, was his father's maternal uncle. When he died childless in 1782, he inherited his family estate and, with a royal license, his last name Maule .
His son, the 2nd Baron, inherited the title 11th Earl of Dalhousie from his cousin James Broun-Ramsay, 1st Marquess of Dalhousie , in 1860 and took the surname Maule-Ramsay . When he died childless on July 6, 1874, the Panmure barony became extinct. The Earldom Dalhousie, however, fell to his cousin George Ramsay and still exists today.
