Honschaft Refrath: Extract from the map from 1789, Wiebeking

The Honschaft Refrath was from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, a Honschaft in office Porz in the Duchy of Berg . In the twelfth century, the Counts of Berg moved the parish church rights from Refrath to Bensberg. In 1715 Ploennis noted Refrath as a parish , but at that time it belonged to the parish of Bensberg. It is logical that Fabricius mentions it, referring to the chart of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 by Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking Honschaft in the parish of Bensberg . The parish village of Refrath was the titular place of honor. The honor was assigned to the Herkenrath messenger office and the Bensberg Higher Court . In the Wiebeking map of 1789 the boundaries of Refrath are shown; it corresponds roughly to today's district of Refrath.

At that time, the honors included the residential areas Aue , Brandroster , Kaule , Lustheide , Refrath, Vürels , Saal and Steinbreche .

In 1797, 340 inhabitants, 71 fireplaces, 260 Bergische acres of arable land, ten berg. Morning meadows, 312 mountains. Tomorrow forest, as well as 149 oxen and cows recorded.

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813 the Porz office was dissolved and Refrath was politically assigned to Mairie Bensberg in the canton of Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein arrondissement . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district . From 1845 Refrath is again an independent parish.
