Chris Johns

Chris Johns (born April 15, 1951 in Medford , USA ) is an American photographer and publisher .

Life

Johns studied agriculture at Oregon State University . He then graduated with a bachelor's degree in technical journalism from the University of Minnesota . He began his photography career in 1975 with the daily Topeka Capital-Journal and switched to the Seattle Times daily in 1980 before working as a freelance photographer for magazines such as Life , Time Magazine and National Geographic Magazine in 1983 . In 1985 he went to National Geographic Magazine as a contract photographer and was employed there in 1995. He has been editor-in-chief of the magazine since 2005.

Johns has published more than 20 articles in National Geographic Magazine to date, including eight cover stories. He is the author of three books.

Johns lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western Virginia with his wife and three children .
