history

In Urkataster Lückerath is in the area of today's road Old Lückerath recorded. The development of the settlement falls into the great rode epoch between 1000 and 1300. From the former noble Lückerath estate , which is documented as "Lüggeraedt" for 1556 and in a feudal relationship with Hof Immekeppel ( Haus Meer, Section The monastery), the eastern part of Oberlückerath developed in the early modern times, which the original cadastre lists as "Ober Lückerath" on the "Path from Gladbach to Bensberg" (Gladbacher Straße). In 1905 the hamlet of Lückerath with 26 residential buildings and 152 residents belonged to the city of Bergisch Gladbach. In contrast, Oberlückerath, with eight buildings and 49 residents, was part of the community of Bensberg Freiheit. The defining word "Lück" probably goes back to the personal name "Luidiger". Thus the name of the settlement denotes the "clearing (rath) des Luidiger".
