history

The name Lehmpöhle refers to a relatively late settlement that only emerged after 1830. In 1878 there were 22 residents here. The determinant word loam is derived from the old high German "leime" (= loam, mud) and refers to the nature of the surrounding arable land. The basic word "pöhle" goes back to the Middle High German "phuol" (= Pfuhl). Under Phuhl (dialect Pohl ) refers to a small body of water. The settlement name Lehmpöhle therefore refers to a muddy pond or a water-rich, swampy loam soil.
